Second Filming Weekend of the Cleveland Indie Film Project 2024!
"You're Fired" by SaBrianna Lever
A couple months back, cast and grew gathered on set for the short film, "You're Fired," written and directed by Cleveland Indie Film Project participant SaBrianna Lever! What we've learned in the "movie-making world" is that you never know what kind of obstacles you are going to run into while shooting. A great thing about this incubator project is having the opportunity to experience filmmaking in a professional atmosphere and learning how to overcome the different challenges you face on a set. We asked Lever to talk about her experience on set and plans amidst the post-production process! Read more below.

"You're Fired"
When a young woman is suddenly fired from her big corporate job, she embarks on a journey in hopes of discovering herself... and a new career.
CCR: What was your favorite part about being on set and leading the production of "You're Fired?"
Lever: My favorite part about being on set was seeing some of my favorite scenes come to life. When we arrived to our final location and seeing the actors happy and rehearsing their lines, as well as getting natural reactions during scenes from crew members. And just the fact that we were finally making the film I spent months preparing for!
CCR: Were there any challenges you faced on set? How did you overcome them?
Lever: We faced quite a few challenges on my set since it got moved into one day. A lot probably could’ve been avoided if communication in preproduction was better. Trying to stay on a tight schedule was our biggest issue from the beginning. We also had to alter the schedule due to rain and loss of light when needed. I’d say we eventually got through this by thinking quick, having positive attitudes and becoming more assertive as the director. I realized I should’ve done it sooner, but I didn’t want to come off as too controlling since. Turns out I was fine and it was needed lol!
CCR: Now that production is complete, what are you looking forward to most in the post-production process?
Lever: I’m looking forward to seeing how I can still accomplish my goal for this film since I was not able to get all of the shots I initially wanted. I’m always up for an editing challenge. I can’t wait to see how it turns out!
CCR: Anything else you'd like to share about the process or shooting weekend?
Lever: I had to recast a role less than two weeks before filming and had to get a park permit within a week. Thank you GCFC for your help! Everyone on set was amazing! Couldn’t have asked for a better cast and crew. I appreciate all of them. Even though we were extremely behind schedule, everyone had a good attitude throughout the day which helped on set. It was still a great experience that I can’t wait do again even better!
